Ombudsman Representatives Help Residents.

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman in Georgia aims to enhance the quality of life for residents in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes, intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities, personal care homes, and community living arrangements. This office certifies and trains community ombudsmen who work to address the concerns of long-term care residents across the state, focusing on the residents’ wishes as they help resolve issues.

The Office also provides advocacy and informal resolution for concerns raised by residents in these facilities. Ombudsmen act on behalf of residents, respecting their wishes and desires. They may intervene in problematic situations only with the direct permission of the resident or their representative. Additionally, ombudsmen have access to resources and materials that can assist in addressing concerns. They are knowledgeable about the laws and policies governing long-term care facilities and agencies, which can be beneficial in specific situations.
